International Valentine’s Film Festival

Upper Iowa University’s Honors Program and Center for International Education will host an International Valentine’s Film Festival February 14, 17 and 18.  Each showing is free and open to the community in the UIU Student Center ballrooms at Fayette Campus. Popcorn and soda will be available.

The featured films (due to Motion Picture regulations, the titles cannot be posted), dates and times are as follows:

Wednesday, February 14, 8 p.m.  – An Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, this Mexican film features three stories of life along the margins in Mexico City that converge in this inventive thriller. Rated R for violence/gore, language and sexuality.

Saturday, February 17, 8 p.m. – An Academy Award winning American film for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor and Best Adapted Screenplay. A tender, heartbreaking story of a young man’s struggle to find himself, told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality. Rated R are for some sexuality, drug use, brief violence, and language.

Sunday, February 18, 7 p.m. – Set in the early 1900s, this India film follows a young man on his way home to India after having spent the past 10 years in London. As the news reaches his family and that of his ex-love’s respective households, the family matriarchs remember when the young couple were still children. Though the young girl has agreed to an arranged marriage with a wealthy landowner, she still loves the man, and is determined to lure him away from his constant drinking. Rated PG.
