Doors open to President’s Home Oct. 7

President William R. Duffy and his wife, Sharon, will open the doors to the newly renovated President’s Home during an open house on Friday, Oct. 7. The event will coincide with UIU’s 100th Homecoming celebration.

The doors to the President’s Home will be open to the public on Friday, Oct. 7, as part of the 2016 Homecoming festivities. An open house is scheduled from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and will allow visitors a sneak peek of the home’s recently completed restoration project. Persons attending the Oct. 7 Open House at the President’s Home will also enjoy coffee, tea and desserts.

Built in 1900, the President’s Home has been under renovation for more than a year. From applying fresh coats of paint and refinishing wood floors to the installation of new cabinetry and an HVAC system, each room in the home experienced some type of facelift. Over $140,000 in private funds was donated for the project.

In addition to serving as the home to the University presidents and their families, the residence has accommodated other dignitaries and guests for nearly 120 years. President Duffy and other former UIU presidents have also hosted special student events at the property, located across from campus at 308 Washington St.

Among changes to the traditional schedule, alumni are asked to note that the annual Hall of Fame Banquet will be held in the Student Center Ballroom at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.

A guide to the 100th “Blue Pride Worldwide” Homecoming celebration, including information regarding the President’s Ball, Alumni Awards and Honor Class Luncheon, Mark Haltof ’71 Art Reception, athletic events and other activities is inserted in the 2016 summer edition of The Bridge.
