Upper Iowa University to host ninth annual Saturday art class event
FAYETTE, Iowa (December 18, 2014) – Upper Iowa University Art Department will host the ninth annual Saturday Art Program beginning January 24 at the Edgar Fine Arts building on the Fayette, Iowa, campus. Fayette County elementary school students are invited to participate in this four-week program, which includes class on January 31, February 7 and February 14.
“This program will bring creative experiences and a lot of fun to area children,” said John Siblik, dean of the School of Liberal Arts and associate professor of art. “The idea for the Saturday Art Program at Upper Iowa came through my past experiences and a personal desire to make available rich visual arts opportunities to the young people of Fayette County. Furthermore, in conjunction with the Art Department and the Andres School of Education, I feel we can create valuable learning experiences for Upper Iowa students studying art education. Our art education majors will be prepared with a complete curriculum unit and are really looking forward to being involved with this program.”
The program is open to all children of Fayette County grades 1-6. Classes scheduled for January 24, January 31, February 7 and February 14 are as follows:
- Section 1: Grades 1-3, 1-2 p.m., Room 308 of Edgar Fine Arts
- Section 2: Grades 4-6, 1-2 p.m., Room 302 of Edgar Fine Arts
Students will work with a variety of materials including drawing, painting, printmaking and clay. “The main objective of this program is to foster the development of a better understanding and appreciation for the visual arts and that these children carry this appreciation with them into the future,” added Siblik. “Just as important, the program will give students an opportunity to express their creative inclinations.”
Registration is $25 per student, and can be completed by contacting Siblik at 563-425-5241 or siblikj@uiu.edu.
