Upper Iowa University to host talent showcase November 21
FAYETTE, Iowa (November 19, 2014) – Upper Iowa University will present its first annual UIU Talent Showcase this Friday, November 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center ballroom featuring the Upper Iowa’s talented singers, actors, spoken word artists and dancers. This performance is free and open to the public.
UIU Music & Theater Productions are spearheaded by director Robin Jons, who was hired in September, after students and staff requested a reprisal of the programs. Upper Iowa has not had theatrical productions since the late 1990s or music since 2003. UIU choir meets from 4-5:30 p.m. on Monday and Thursday of each week; while Take 2 Theater: Acting & Improv meets Wednesday from 2-4 p.m.
“I absolutely love my new position as director, and I’m passionate about building a viable music and theater program here at UIU,” said Jons. “Every week, new students are joining theater and choir, and I’m amazed at the level of talent that shows up. Though we work hard, we also have a lot of fun, and that provides valuable stress relief for us all.”
Jons brings 30-plus years of professional experience to the table, and has performed for several governors and vice presidents, along with President Barack Obama. She is an award-winning composer, producer, actress and recording artist.
