Outdoor classroom in session

While practicing UIU’s ongoing Care Plan guidelines, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) soil scientist Neil Sass (standing) provided an outdoor presentation to  Upper Iowa University associate professor of biology Dr. Jennifer Stoffel’s soil and water conservation students on Friday, September 11, at Fayette Campus. NRCS soil conservationist Eric Bro and Maynard, Iowa, farmer Scott Wedemeier also provided presentations to the class. The UIU field sciences program has traditionally taken advantage of the University’s unique Fayette Campus location to best utilize the area’s ample “outdoor laboratories.” Northeast Iowa, the Upper Mississippi Valley and the rural and urban landscapes throughout the Upper Midwest offer a wide variety of opportunities to engage students of all ages in action- and service-learning, and problem-driven community-based research activities.
