Class of 2019 Peacock Athletic HOF inductees

Upper Iowa University will induct five members into its Athletics Hall of Fame during the 2019 Hall of Fame Weekend September 13-14. The honorees are as follows:

Athlete: Kevin Stahle ’97
(Conservation Management/ Biology)
A four-year letter winner on the Peacock football team, Stahle was named a threetime Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team defensive back. He led the Peacocks with five interceptions in 1996.

 

Athlete: Dr. Angela (Baldrige) Thompson ’04 (Education/English)
A four-year letter winner in women’s basketball, Thompson was named All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Second Team as a junior in UIU’s final NCAA Division III season (2002-03). She scored the fifth most points in UIU women’s basketball history– 1,159, including 445 points as a senior. Thompson also pulled down 590 rebounds during her four-year collegiate career.

Coach: Bill Neal ’72 (American History/Physical Education)
For over 36 years, Neal served as a teacher, coach and athletic director at Williamsburg (Iowa) High School. Inducted into the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Hall of Fame in 2017, he has been named the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Girls Track Coach of the Year and Senior All-Star Track and Field Coach. Neal earned eight Regional Coach of the Year awards (five in track and field and three in cross-country) and eight Conference Coach of the Year awards in track and field. He has also served as an official starter at various state and national cross-country and track and field meets.

Special Recognition: Steve ’73 (Physical Education)
and Diane (Kinkead) Harms ’73 (Psychology)
Steve and Diane Harms are being recognized for their philanthropy and longtime commitment to Upper Iowa University. The couple’s major gifts include the endowed cheer program, REC Center and academic building renovations and the transformation of Harms-Eischeid Stadium. Steve and Diane have also been instrumental in bringing alumni groups back in the fold and encouraging them to invest in UIU’s future. While they attended UIU, Steve played four years of football and Diane was a three-year member of the cheer team.

Youth Day at UIU – All kids under age of 18 admitted free
