‘Play with Clay!’ community education class
Upper Iowa University will host an Arts for a Lifetime Community Education class entitled “Play with Clay!” on Tuesday evenings March 27-April 24. The five-week course will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. in the UIU Peacock Arts and Athletic Center. The class is open to teenagers (16 years of age and older) and adults. Cost is $100 and includes instruction, clay, glazes and firings.
Learn to make pots and more using handbuilding techniques. Students will be encouraged to expand on what they have learned and take projects in their own direction. The instructor will be Katie Brooks, a UIU senior art major from Manchester, Iowa. Brooks has participated in group exhibitions, including Iowa Crafts exhibitions at the MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, Iowa, where she was awarded Best in Other Craft Media for a glass sculpture and Jurors Special Mention in clay for a ceramic sculpture. She also won Best in Show at UIU’s Community College exhibition for a wood-fired pitcher.
