After pedaling for approximately 410 miles, Upper Iowa University Team Peacock members are reflecting on another rewarding journey as part of the recently completed Des Moines Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). Serving as UIU ambassadors, Team Peacock riders once again developed newfound friendships, memories and awareness for the University.

Since 2005, Team Peacock has raised more than $1.4 million to benefit UIU students and programming. UIU’s Team Peacock pedaled approximately 410 miles across Iowa as part of RAGBRAI 2017.

“The number of proud alumni and other friends of UIU that we continue to meet during every RAGBRAI is amazing,” President William R. Duffy said. “The persistent support Team Peacock receives as we pass through each and every community can be especially uplifting on those long, hot days. However, what we find most inspiring is the number of people who step forward each year to help continue improving the UIU experience of our current and future Peacocks.”

RAGBRAI 2017 began in Orange City on Sunday, July 23. Overnight stops took place in Spencer, Algona, Clear Lake, Charles City, Cresco and Waukon. As is tradition, the Team Peacock bicycle tires were dipped in the Mississippi River, this year in the Driftless Area near Lansing on Saturday, July 29.
