Nursing CEP informational sessions to be held

Upper Iowa University and Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) have scheduled a pair of Nursing Concurrent Enrollment Partnership (CEP) information sessions. The public is welcome to attend the meeting at NICC Calmar Campus in Wilder Business Center Room 104-10 on Tuesday, July 18, or the meeting at NICC Peosta Campus Main Building Room 203-204 on Wednesday, July 19. Both events begin at 6 p.m.

The program presenters will be UIU RN-BSN Program Admissions Advisor Christina Frana, UIU Nursing Academic Advisor Deb Feldbruegge and NICC Director of Nursing Susan Schneider. Feldbruegge will also be making individual appointments with interested students the following day on each campus.

The UIU-NICC Nursing CEP agreement, the first of its kind in the state of Iowa, allows students in the two-year associate degree of nursing program at NICC to enter a cohort group and concurrently enroll in online BSN coursework through UIU. This allows students who graduate with a NICC associate degree to license as a registered nurse and continue online coursework through UIU for approximately six to eight additional months to complete their BSN degree.

The Nursing CEP agreement addresses the growing nursing shortage in northeast Iowa. Because many nurses are nearing retirement in northeast Iowa, healthcare providers – hospitals, clinics and medical offices – are increasingly seeking licensed, highly skilled registered nurses to fill current and projected employment openings.

A consortium agreement of this nature also maximizes financial aid to each student’s benefit. The overall cost of education for CEP students participating in this program is substantially less than traditional four-year BSN programs, while maintaining the highest quality in nursing education.
