UIU to host free carnival April 22

Good food and family fun will be jam-packed into one festive package during the 2017 Upper Iowa University Carnival at Fayette Campus on Saturday, April 22. Carnival rides, vendors, games and prizes are all scheduled to be a part of the free public event.

“This is all about everyone having fun,” said Daryl Grove, UIU assistant dean of student life. “We want the entire community to join our students and just come out and have a good time. There will be three large midway rides, a large variety of games and activities for people of all ages, and a long list of local vendors on hand to help make this a special day.”

Grove noted that the UIU Greek organizations will be hosting a petting zoo, bounce house, dunk tank, giant ball toss, air-brush tattoos and many additional activities. The rides, games and activities will be open from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on the lawn, located just east of the Student Center.

Local vendors will also be on site from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. offering food, refreshments and a long list of unique items, including art, handmade goods, apparel, beauty supplies, home goods and accessories.

“Northeast Iowa has lots of reasons to celebrate and our local businesses and other entrepreneurs play a major role in what makes this area so special,” said UIU events manager Megan Stammeyer. “So far we have over 20 vendors registered to showcase their wares, and with all of the other scheduled activities, we sincerely hope everyone comes out to share in this fun-filled experience with family and friends. You won’t want to miss it.”

The April 22 activities also include Junior Visit Day, the UIU Adventure Run at 9 a.m. and the UIU Peacock softball team taking the field at 1 p.m. against Minot State University.
