April brings shower of activities

A shower of activities will rain down on the Upper Iowa University community in April 2017. With the arrival of spring, UIU has scheduled a variety of events that celebrate Peacock traditions, new arrivals, and current and future projects.

UIU students, faculty, staff and other local volunteers will gather to complete area service projects as part of the 11th Annual Fayette Appreciation Day on Wednesday, April 19. Last year, over 550 Good Samaritans completed nearly 50 cleanup and maintenance projects in eight Fayette County communities.

The following day UIU will announce the launch of new University and athletic logos. The public is invited to attend the Logo Launch Party from 3 – 5 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in the Student Center ballrooms at UIU’s Fayette Campus. In addition to the logos’ public debut, the informal event will feature cake, ice cream, refreshments and a commemorative gift for the first 500 people who attend the special ceremony.

The celebrations continue at UIU’s Fayette Campus on Saturday, April 22, as the public is invited to attend the UIU Carnival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests attending this fun-filled event will enjoy free carnival rides, games and prizes. Local vendors will also be on hand offering food, home goods, apparel, unique gifts and other items. The UIU Adventure Run is at 9 a.m. and the UIU Peacock softball team takes the field at 1 p.m. against Minot State University. High school juniors will also be on Campus April 22 as part of Junior Visit Day.

The April celebrations conclude with faculty, staff, alumni and the entire Upper Iowa University family invited to “Step Up” in support of UIU students and programming during Giving Day 2017. The University’s inaugural Giving Day is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 27. The 36-hour program will raise funds for various UIU organizations and programs.

Additional details on each of these festive UIU events will be announced in the coming weeks.
