Former ITT Tech students offered UIU grants

With the sudden closing of ITT Tech on Tuesday, Sept. 6, Upper Iowa University (UIU) is reaching out to former ITT Tech students with a helpful offer of assistance. UIU, a private, nonprofit university founded in 1857, is offering a grant of up to $1000 to current ITT Tech students and recent ITT Tech graduates toward full-time enrollment at UIU.

UIU operates centers near a number of ITT Tech former locations, including Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana, Des Moines, Iowa, and Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. UIU is also a recognized pioneer in accredited online and self-paced programs, meaning that ITT Tech students throughout the United States can take advantage of the university’s grant offering.

To qualify for the grant, students simply need to have been enrolled at ITT Tech any time in the last year. Grants will be applied to tuition during UIU terms starting on Oct. 24, 2016; Jan. 9, 2017; and Mar. 6, 2017. The total amount of the grant is based on the number of classes taken over the three-term period. Grant recipients can attend any of UIU’s 25 locations in Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin as well as via UIU’s highly acclaimed online program. Funding for this program is limited, so students are encouraged to inquire early.

As UIU operates on eight-week terms, ITT Tech students do not need to wait until January to get started. UIU’s innovative academic model also means that students take only two classes per term, providing them with greater flexibility while maintaining a high level of learning.

UIU accepts up to 90 transferred credits, and ITT Tech is on a comprehensive list of institutions from which students can transfer credits to UIU. Academic advisors will work with students to review credits earned at ITT Tech to determine transferability. Thus, students adversely affected by ITT Tech’s sudden closure may have options to continue their education at UIU without starting over.

“ITT Tech students will receive support from knowledgeable, caring staff to ease their transition from ITT Tech to Upper Iowa University,” UIU Provost & Executive Vice President Dr. Kurt Wood said. “Additionally, they may be able to protect their investment in higher education by transferring ITT Tech credits to Upper Iowa.”

UIU offers more than 40 in-demand programs. For example, students who studied Accounting, Business Administration, Criminology and Forensic Tech, Information Systems, Network Systems Administration, Software Development and many other programs at ITT Tech will find high-quality programs in the same fields at UIU.
