Faculty member receives Baton Rouge law enforcement promotion

Upper Iowa University faculty member Ganiyu Jimoh has been promoted to captain/chief of operations at the City Constable’s Office in Baton Rouge, La. In addition to his law enforcement duties, Jimoh teaches criminal justice and related senior project courses at the UIU-Baton Rouge Center.

“I would like to thank Major Reginald Brown Sr. and Chief Ray Antoine for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Baton Rouge City Constable’s Office and now as their chief of operations. I also thank my family, friends, fellow deputies and everyone who has supported me over the years,” said Jimoh. “Finally, I wish to express my appreciation toward (UIU-Baton Rouge Center director) Cynthia Bentley, (UIU-Baton Rouge Center office manager) Amber Jones and the entire Upper Iowa University family for giving me the opportunity to be a part of their team.

A veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, Jimoh has worked in law enforcement for 14 years. Formerly serving as the Constable’s judicial enforcement sergeant, his duties have also included serving as a fusion liaison officer, defensive tactics instructor, director of the Baton Rouge Reserve Academy, and as a member of the Delta Task Force, Anti-Human Trafficking Task Force and Infragard. He and his wife, Lydia, have five daughters.

“I am a people person and I love my job. It is a rewarding profession. You wake up happy every morning knowing that in treating everyone with respect and never looking down on anyone, you have done your job successfully,” said Jimoh. “We all have to remember that we are one. The community is the police and the police are the community. We all need each other.”
