Fine Arts Series to be showcased

Traditional and mixed media artists will be joined by poets, musicians, and vaudevillian performers during the 2015 Upper Iowa University Fine Arts Series. The annual event on the Fayette Campus opens Thursday, Aug. 27, with artworks by David Prehm, and will conclude with Red Cedar Chamber Music on Saturday, Oct. 3. Each of the seven featured exhibits or performances are free and open to the public. Free will donations will be accepted.

In collaboration with the Upper Iowa University School of Liberal Arts and Art Department, the UIU Office of Students Activities has announced the following Fine Arts Series schedule of events:

Thursday, Aug. 27 ­­– Artist David Prehm will exhibit artworks featuring nature, figures and travel, from 3:30-5 p.m. at Bing-Davis Art Gallery in the UIU Edgar Fine Arts Hall. The exhibit will be open through Friday, Sept. 25.

Thursday, Sept. 3 – Saxophonist Matt Corey plays a unique blend of pop covers and original music with a jazz spin. He will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the UIU Student Center Ballroom.

Thursday, Sept. 10 – Violinist Rhett Price has become a YouTube sensation with his renditions of pop music covers. The Boston, Mass., native will perform in the UIU Student Center Ballroom at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 16 – Lindsay Benner will bring her unique vaudeville show, featuring juggling, acting, and comedy, to the UIU Student Center Ballroom at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 30 ­– Infusing elements of hip hop, theatre, improve and comedy into spoken-word poetry, Mayhem Poets will perform at 7 p.m. in the UIU Student Center Ballroom.

Thursday, Oct. 1 – “Landscape: Upper Iowa University Through the Ages” will feature the works of various artists. The Fine Arts Series exhibit will be open from 2:30-4 p.m. at Bing-Davis Art Gallery in the UIU Edgar Fine Arts Hall. The Landscape exhibit will remain open through Friday, Oct. 30.

Saturday, Oct. 3 – Featuring folk-inspired chamber music set to a collection of silent films, Red Cedar Chamber Music will perform at 7 p.m. in the Fayette Opera House.
