Upper Iowa University to celebrate the 15th anniversary of International Education Week

FAYETTE, Iowa (November 11, 2014) – Upper Iowa University’s Center for International Education (CIE) is gearing up for a fun-filled week focused on international education as part of the 15th anniversary of International Education Week sponsored by the U.S. departments of State and Education November 17-20.

“We are so excited for our international students on the Fayette campus to share their heritage with us during the week-long celebration,” said Ismael Betancourt, vice president for International Education. “From special foods being served in the Servery to the many special gatherings we will host throughout the week, the students will have the opportunity to showcase their home countries with the rest of the student body in a unique way.”

The International Education Week lineup at Upper Iowa includes:

  • Monday, November 17 – International food served in the Servery from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; International Education Week kickoff, noon in the Servery; and UIU mini-World Cup event from 8-10 p.m. at the Rec Center.
  • Tuesday, November 18 – International coffee hour in the Student Center lobby from 9:30-10:30 a.m. (free international coffee samples sponsored by CIE); international food served in the Servery from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and special showing of “Motorcycle Diaries” from 6-8 p.m. in Student Center Ballroom C (popcorn and soda sponsored by CIE).
  • Wednesday, November 19 – International food served in the Servery from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; “Global Warming and Climate Change” panel at noon in Ballroom C of the Student Center; and International Tea Chat from 3-4 p.m. in the lobby of the Student Center.
  • Thursday, November 20 – Discounted passport photos taken for students, faculty and staff at the International House from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Education Abroad Coffee Hour from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Student Center lobby. International students will also be encouraged to wear traditional all day.

Special international education posters made by UIU’s international students will be on display all week in the Student Center. The CIE’s annual culture night will be held February 20, 2015; so, save the date!
